Lava Floor

Lava Floor is Lockdown.SG's LED arena, and it needed to sell on its own rather than as a line on the escape room site. Terris built it hand-coded and static, one stylesheet and one script with no framework at all, so the neon runs at full tilt and the whole thing still ships under 90KB. The structure splits the three ways people actually turn up: a parent working out whether a seven-year-old can play, a group booking a Saturday night, and an HR manager pricing a team event.

The Challenge

What They Were Facing

Lava Floor sits inside Lockdown.SG at Marina Square, which is both the advantage and the problem. People who already know Lockdown find it by accident, and everyone else is searching for the game without knowing the venue exists. It is also a 25-minute session at $13 a head, so the site has to convert on the first screen. Nobody reads three sections before booking something that costs less than lunch.

Problem 01

People Search the Game, Not the Venue

The query is "floor is lava Singapore", not the brand name, because almost nobody knows the brand yet. The site had to compete for the game itself and then explain, inside one screen, that the game has a physical home on the third floor of Marina Square.

Problem 02

Twenty-Five Minutes at Thirteen Dollars

This is a low-price, low-consideration booking. The visitor decides in seconds and will not read a brochure first, so the price, the session length, the location and a way to book all have to clear the fold together. Anything that slows the first paint costs a booking outright.

Problem 03

Families, Friday Groups and HR Managers

A parent wants the minimum age and whether it suits a seven-year-old. A group of friends wants the game modes and whether it gets hard enough. A company wants headcount, a quote and a room to itself. One homepage, three different first questions, and answering the wrong one first loses all three.

Problem 04

Standing Apart From Lockdown Without Leaving It

Lava Floor shares a doorway, a phone number and an operator with an escape room brand that already ranks on its own site. It needed an identity and a domain of its own so it could compete for its own search term, while still telling people exactly where to go, which is the glowing sign beside Lockdown at #03-149.

Our Solution

How We Solved It

The game is loud, physical and over in 25 minutes, so the site is built to match. Everything that decides the booking sits on the first screen, and the rest explains itself on the way down.

01 Solution 1 of 5

An Arcade Identity, Built Out of Type

Michroma for the headings, Silkscreen and Doto for the pixel numerals, Barlow for anything you actually have to read. The palette is just the game: the green, blue and red of the LED tiles glowing on near-black. The hero floor is drawn in CSS rather than photographed, so it loads instantly and cannot look like stock.

02 Solution 2 of 5

The Whole Decision Above the Fold

Both prices, $13 on weekdays and $17 at weekends, the 25-minute session, Marina Square, a book button, a WhatsApp button, and the Google and TripAdvisor scores with their real review counts. Someone can decide without scrolling, which is the only thing that matters on a booking this cheap.

03 Solution 3 of 5

Hand-Built, No Framework

One stylesheet, one script, 86KB between them, served static from Vercel's Singapore edge. No build step, no hydration, no framework runtime. On a site this size a framework would have weighed more than everything the site currently ships.

04 Solution 4 of 5

19 Schema Types, Written by Hand

FAQPage, Place, Offer, ReserveAction, OpeningHoursSpecification, ShoppingCenter, GeoCoordinates, PeopleAudience and the rest, written out rather than generated by a plugin. The price, the hours, the address and all six FAQs are machine-readable, which is what gets a small venue quoted in an answer instead of buried at the tenth blue link.

05 Solution 5 of 5

A Page for Each Way In

Eighteen pages covering how to play, the kids angle, team building, gift vouchers, and a dedicated page for people searching where to play floor is lava in central Singapore. Plus a blog doing the comparison work this category actually gets asked for: floor is lava in Johor Bahru against Singapore, couple activities, team bonding.

Process

How We Got There

4 phases from kickoff to launch.

1

Identity

1 day

Set the mark, the arcade type stack and the LED palette, taken straight off the tiles in the room.

2

Structure and Copy

2 days

Mapped the three arrival routes, wrote the 18 pages and the four blog posts, and settled what had to clear the fold.

3

Build

3 days

Hand-coded the site as static HTML with one stylesheet and one script, including the CSS lava floor, the booking and WhatsApp routes and the full JSON-LD block.

4

Launch

1 day

GA4, sitemap and robots, then deployed to Vercel.
