Lotus Leaf Brand

Lotus Leaf Brand has been making medicated oils and ointments in Singapore since 1983, when the founder, a delivery man who cycled goods around the island and ached every night, decided to formulate something better than what he could buy. It is now run with his second generation. We built the site around that story and around the products themselves, because in a category where the packaging is the brand recognition, hiding the boxes would have been the worst thing we could do.

The Challenge

What They Were Facing

Heritage Asian medicine brands have a particular problem online. The product is genuinely trusted, often for decades and often across several countries, but the trust lives in the physical packaging on a shelf in a provision shop. Take that away and put it on a website, and a brand people have used their whole lives can suddenly look like something invented last year.

Problem 01

The Packaging Is the Brand

Customers recognise Lotus Leaf by the boxes: the lion, the red flower oil, the green medicated oil, the Chinese characters. Any design that abstracted the products into tidy modern icons would have thrown away four decades of accumulated recognition.

Problem 02

One Product, Five Unrelated Buyers

An elderly customer treating joint stiffness, an office worker with neck tension, an athlete after a hard session, a parent with a toddler, and a traveller packing a first-aid kit. Same bottle, five different reasons, and a generic product page speaks to none of them.

Problem 03

A Founder Story Nobody Had Heard

Mr Lim learning Chinese medicine from his late father, going to night classes and formulating his own ointment because the ones he could buy did not work on the aches from his own delivery round, is the most persuasive thing about the brand. It existed nowhere a customer could find it.

Problem 04

Claims Have to Stay Careful

Topical relief products sit close to a regulated line. The copy needed to be confident about what these products are for, aches, bruises, tension, insect bites, without drifting into medical claims the brand cannot make.

Our Solution

How We Solved It

We led with the shelf, told the founder’s story properly, and split the audience by the reason someone reaches for the bottle rather than by product name.

01 Solution 1 of 4

The Whole Range as the Hero

The entire product line photographed and laid out across the top of the page as a single row of boxes, in the original Chinese and English packaging. A returning customer recognises theirs immediately, and a new one instantly understands this is a real range rather than a single product with a website.

02 Solution 2 of 4

Five Use Cases Instead of a Product Grid

For the family, the office worker, the athlete, the traveller, and the unexpected. Each names the specific situation, right down to the 60ml sizes fitting a suitcase or a first-aid kit, so a visitor finds themselves in one line rather than reading a spec list.

03 Solution 3 of 4

The Founder Story, Told at Length

A full Our Story section covering the late-70s delivery rounds, the knowledge passed down from his father, the night schools, the 1983 founding and the second generation now involved. It is the credential no competitor can copy, and it earns the "trusted by generations" line rather than just asserting it.

04 Solution 4 of 4

Restrained Design Around Loud Packaging

Deep green and warm neutrals on a near-white ground, with an elegant serif for the headings. The packaging is already vivid, so the site stays quiet and lets it carry the colour instead of competing with it.
